My Hotmail account has been sending people in my contacts list spam. I have no idea how this started but I know it’s been going on for 5 days now. Any advice you can give me that can salvage my email account would be much appreciated.
you were phished… this means someone got your username and password and is sending junk mail from your account. Have you ever been on hotmail and it looked like you were all of a sudden logged out and you were directed to a “log in” page that looked just like the hotmail screen… this was a fake log in screen designed so you would put in your information and someone could steal it. to stop the spam you need to change your password and in the future never enter your log in info unless the URL is (thats what the real URL is) or just hit refresh to be sure your on the actual site.
Sounds like you picked up a virus.
Immediately have your computer checked for a ‘bug’ or ‘bugs.’
Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet.
I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also.
After you finish this, then go in and change your password, using a good strong one.
Then, you need to inform all of your contacts that the E-mails were not from you, but a virus, and that they also need to check their computers for infection.

I think you just need to change the password… but I’m not sure.

Get Ubuntu
The anti windows windows.
Ubuntu – Linux for Human Beings!
I’ve been using it for 10 days now and love it. Took a bit of getting used too. Plus it is 100% free.
Sounds to me like you have a trojan.
Windoze is prone to all kinds of malicious crap.
The guy below me is 100% correct.

You have a virus or a worm on your account. It’s not a person! Run a virus scan quickly.
